Our Story

About Us

One fall day, on the University of Denver’s campus, two old friends reunited. Alex was long-boarding home, and zipped by Maddy. A week later at a home‐cooked dinner, Maddy mentioned the huge moon. The two stepped outside, and turned their gaze upward. Within seconds a shooting star streamed across the velvet sky. Slightly out of disbelief, they exchanged looks. Returning their gazes to the heavens above, another star shot across the midnight horizon! A quick decision was made to head to Lookout Mountain and watch the sky. With their down jackets, hot cups of tea, and blankets, the two laid down under the perfect night and viewed the brilliant lights of the city below. Hours passed full of discussions on everything from health to traveling the world. Finally, 4am drew near and they decided it was time to head back to school. Two days later, Alex asked Maddy on a “real” date, and they have been together ever since. After discovering their joint passion for health and active lifestyles, the two began cooking dinners nightly, going to early morning yoga, taking long weekend ski trips to the mountains, and watching the clear, Colorado sky for shooting stars.

Alex has always been eager to create his own business. Maddy is a certified Pilates instructor, certified massage therapist, and certified nutritional consultant. Both of the young entrepreneurs have a great love for the outdoors and enthusiasm for active lifestyles. With Alex’s business knowledge and Maddy’s passion for healthy cooking, it made perfect sense to start a health‐food company. With drive and excitement, Love Grown Foods was born. Hours spent in the DU library writing business ideas, and days spent baking batch after batch of granola until the perfect recipe was found, Alex and Maddy started the preliminary steps for creating a company. They made surveys for classmates and brought samples to all of their friends and fellow students. Information soon began to pile up, and they realized that they were not only going to start a business, but they were going to create a movement.

Alex and Maddy both graduated a year early from the University of Denver and moved back to Maddy’s hometown, Aspen, Colorado, for the summer to work. Summer, however, turned into fall, and fall turned into winter. Through personal connections, new friends, support from their family and continued encouragement from each other, they took large steps to bring Love Grown Foods off the ground and from their commercial kitchen to your home. Love Grown Foods is now available statewide in mainstream supermarkets and growing fast!

Love Grown Foods was created in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Located at just about 8,000 feet above sea level, Aspen, Colorado is home to some of the greatest natural beauty and best outdoor activities. No matter what the season, there are always ways to take advantage of the gorgeous and spectacular surroundings! Aspen is known around the world for it glitz and glimmer, but for us…it’s our inspiration. It is pure, natural fun! To wake up and look out into a valley of mountains covered in trees and breathe in fresh mountain air, we feel a deep sense of gratitude. It is just one of those places where you have to see it to believe it. And once it’s in your blood…there’s no place like home.

With the growth of our company we have returned to where we met: Denver, Colorado. Even though we are no longer in the mountains of Aspen, we will always consider it our home and where Love Grown Foods was born. Without the love and support from the incredible individuals in the Roaring Fork Community we wouldn't be available statewide today. We are so grateful for everyone who believes in us and who helped get us to this point! THANK YOU!
